bits of wisdom

my friend just forwarded me this email with the following sarcastically humorous words of wisdom.

i like #1, 8, 13, 16, 18 the best.
#22 just made me go "eeeeeeww!".

*************************************************************************

1. Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either. Just pretty much leave me alone.

2. The journey of a thousand miles begins with a broken fan belt and leaky tire.

3. It's always darkest before dawn. So if you're going to steal your neighbor's newspaper, that's the time to do it.

4. Don't be irreplaceable. If you can't be replaced, you can't be promoted.

5. Always remember that you're unique. Just like everyone else.

6. Never test the depth of the water with both feet.

7. If you think nobody cares if you're alive, try missing a couple of car payments.

8. Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.
That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

9. If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

10. Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

11. If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

12. If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything.

13. Some days you're the bug; some days you're the windshield.

14. Everyone seems normal until you get to know them.

15. The quickest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket.

16. A closed mouth gathers no foot.

17. Duct tape is like 'The Force'. It has a light side and a dark side, and it holds the universe together.

18. There are two theories to arguing with women. Neither one works.

19. Generally speaking, you aren't learning much when your lips are moving.

20. Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

21. Never miss a good chance to shut up.

22. Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.

duck on the peak

yesterday, i had the most delicious birthday dinner!
Larry took me to a nice Asian-Australian restaurant on the top of the peak, called Pearl on the Peak. i order an entree of braised duck legs cooked in lemongrass and red curry, served with coconut-flavored rice. wow, was i impressed at how incredible it all tasted. perhaps it's my newfound love and appreciation of Asian curry and coconut flavors, or maybe it reminded me of being back in Southeast Asia. what i know is that despite feeling full halfway through the meal, i forced myself to finish the whole dish and essentially surrendered the last of my stomach space normally reserved for dessert to it... because i loved it THAT much! we even had the chance to give our compliments to the chef in person. the restaurant itself was very nice and classy with a perfect view of Victoria Harbour, and dinner included complimentary pre-meal appetizers and petite fours desserts. i believe i'll be dreaming of this braised duck dish until we return there for another nice dinner!

i definitely recommend this restaurant! (reservations necessary)

turning back time

yes, a HIGH SCHOOL PROM!
a few of my friends and i thought it would be super cool to throw ourselves a formal, black-tie dinner and dance party with the theme of a high school prom.

so last month, we invited 60 of our friends and rented out a nice ballroom with a delicious dinner and open bar, hired a dj to play 80's & 90's songs, set up a photo booth complete with a cheezy backdrop, hired a photographer to man the photo booth, and even had an announcement of prom king and queen and presented them with a tiara and crown! we named each table after classic 80's-90's movies, such as "Top Gun", "Pretty Woman", and "The Breakfast Club". we danced to Wham!, Erasure, Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, Depeche Mode, and more. personally, i would've enjoyed hearing more old skool Hip Hop and R&B like Bobby Brown, Salt N'Pepa, Bell Biv Divoe, LL Cool J, and Mary J Blige. i requested them earlier, but for some reason the dj never played them. didn't hear any New Kids on the Block songs either. (yeah, i admit i was a fanatic NKOTB fan back then! i ain't ashamed... well, not really! haha) anyways, we had fun! here's the cheezy couple picture of me and larry. funny, right?

it was cool because many of our friends here in Hong Kong didn't attend high school in the U.S. or Canada and never had the chance to experience prom, so this was their very first prom! for the rest of us who went to our proms but didn't have fond memories, it was our second chance at a better prom experience... and might i add, looking much nicer now than we did in our hideous 80's-90's prom dresses and permed hairs. =D

reporting back

hiya! anyone still around?!
i know i've been missing from the blog world for the last two months. it was just such a busy past few months that included throwing a big high-school-prom theme party with friends, beginning my new venture into freelance photography, turning another year older, and taking vacations to Beijing, Cambodia, and Laos. all very exciting! i'll talk about them more later...
