my big moves

Just a bit of background info...
After living in New York for the first few years of my life, my family and I moved to sunny California (SF Bay Area) where I spent all of my school years and my early working years. After that, I moved twice.

Move #1: New York City
I moved back there 2 years ago with Larry (my husband). I had such an amazing time that I fell in love with the city (hence the title of this blog)! So what fascinates me so much about NY? I'll have to save that for another post...

Move #2: Hong Kong
We just moved here 3 months ago. Larry had found an incredible job opportunity in HK. The idea of living in an exciting new country was just too tempting to pass up, and if we ever wanted to make this move, now was the time to do it. We decided to go for it.... and here we are!

We plan to live in HK for a few years, between 2 to 5 years, depending on how Larry's job pans out and how much we both enjoy it here. A few of my girl friends doubt we'll ever move back to CA. I don't blame them, seeing that before moving to NY I had told them we'd return in 2 years... but then we went and moved all the way to HK after that! But I assure you, we WILL be back!!! (I can hear them saying "Yeah right, uh-huh... sure...") I PROMISE! :)

Right now we're slowly trying to settle into Hong Kong. We've been living out of our suitcases in a temporary apartment for the past three months, and we're planning to move into our permanent apartment in March. Exciting, yet scary, because the new place is merely a 550 sq. ft. shoebox disguised as a 2-bedroom apartment... without closets! To illustrate how small this is, our STUDIO in New York was 525 sq. ft! Unfortunately, tiny apartments are simply a fact of life here in Hong Kong. Claustrophobics, beware!

We shipped 60 boxes here. I'm not sure that the boxes themselves, much less their contents, will fit in the apartment! If this were an episode of "Bewitched", I'd be Samantha the housewife-witch --I'd just twitch my nose and magically have everything perfectly unpacked. Voila! If only life were that easy, right?
